The Controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik‘s lawyer recently issued a notice to Times Now and to popular TV anchor Arnab Goswami on Friday. Zakir Naik seeks Rs 500 Crore as compensation for the damages Arnab Goswami has done to his image.
According to a report by India Today, Naik’s advocate Mubin Solkar said, the news anchor ran a “hate campaign” and “media trial” against him. The notice issued also claimed that Goswami’s remarks had also hurt the Muslim community and Naik’s religious sentiments.
Arnab Goswami in his News Hour said some statements on which Zakir Naik seemed to have got offended about and had send a legal notice and asked Times Now team & Arnab Goswami to apologize, here’s some of the statements –
“… He is not a scholar, he is a supporter of Osama bin Laden, he used the medium of television to build the case for Osama bin Laden.”
Naik alleged that the channel made several reckless and callous remarks against him without verifying the facts and without any evidence in support. Besides the defamation notice, Naik has sought unconditional apology from Goswami and Times Now and asked the channel to withdraw statements made against him.
Naik, who preaches on his Peace TV, is under the scanner of the investigating agencies in India and Bangladesh after two terrorists in the Dhaka attack earlier this month were believed to be influenced by him.
