The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) on Saturday cancelled the results of the two toppers of the Intermediate (Science) examinations, including Saurabh Shrestha and Rahul Raj, after they failed to prove their merit in a retest. both students of Vishnu Rai College in Vaishali district, have failed the retest, following which the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) on Saturday cancelled their initial results. This is the first time in the history of BSEB that the merit list has been changed and results of two toppers cancelled.
Top performer in Arts from the same college, Ruby Rai, who could not appear for the retest because of “depression” has been given a week to appear for it, failing which her result would stand cancelled. Ruby Rai failed to turn up for the retest on Friday, has been given another chance to appear for her re-exam on June 11.
Bihar education officials had held a re-exam for seven top rankers in the high school board exams on Friday. The exercise had been important after a few of them gave funny answers to media queries. Science topper Saurabh Shreshth could not differentiate between water and H2O and had identified Aluminium as the most reactive element in the periodic table.
Arts topper Ruby Rai pronounced political science as “prodigal science” and said the subject is all about “cooking”.
Ruby Rai, who also topped in Arts from Hajipur came in news when she said ‘Political Science’ is all about ‘cooking’, when she was asked by a correspondent to explain what is political science. Ruby did not appeared for retest on Friday as she was ‘depressed’ over the ongoing controversy. The institute where Saurabh Shreshth and Ruby Rai studied are also on the radar of education department for the unusually high number of rank-holders it spawns each year.

BSEB chairman Lal Keshwar Prasad Singh said while 11 students who took the test passed the test, Sourabh and Rahul, both students of the controversial Vishnu Rai College, “Their results have been cancelled,” Singh said. The BSEB also suspended the affiliation of the Vishun Rai College, Bhagwanpur in Vaishali district. Singh said a judicial inquiry headed by a retired high court judge would be set up to probe the alleged irregularities.
Saurabh Shresth, the science topper of state-level exam for plus two students of Bihar, has failed in the re exam.
