Yesterday in the river Ganga, in Bihar’s Patna city a boat full of passengers has been drowned in the river. There is a video footage which shows the tragedy of boat. It is confirmed that the boat was carrying passengers over it’s limit. Boat was carrying passengers from the kite flying event. The dramatic video of the boat shows some of the passengers were swimming to save their lives and few were pulled with the sinking boat into the water.
The boat was carrying more than 50 passengers from 50, 24 passengers have been declared dead. The boat was coming back from Sabalpur Diara to Gandhi Chat. All of them were there to fly kites as yesterday was Makarsankranti. Meanwhile, the chief minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar has given order to stop flying kites at Sabalpur Diara. Some of the survivor’s said, the government had arranged the boats to take the passengers but yesterday there were very few boats available to go back to Patna, all the boats were overcrowded.
Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said to the news agency ANI, “Arrangements should have been more robust, inquiry will expose loopholes and defaulters will be caught”.
However, an FIR has been lodged against the boat operator. An FIR lodged against him because he was carrying passengers more then boats capacity.
On Sunday PM Modi announced that an extra gratia of Rs.2 lakh to each of the passengers who are dead in the Bihar boat tragedy. And Rs. 50,000 for them who are injured. The passengers who are injured are being treated in Patna Medical college and Hospital.
