Uvena Fernandes, a former Indian international footballer and now a FIFA-certified referee, has been selected to officiate games at the upcoming FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Jordan from September 30 to October 21.

An assistant referee, Uvena Fernandes had earlier officiated three matches in the Asian Games 2014 in Incheon, Korea Republic including the semifinal clash between former Women’s Champions Japan and Vietnam.

Uvena Fernandes told the All India Football Federation website after her selection, “It is like a dream come true,” she said immediately after. “It is a wonderful opportunity for me and I am excited to see myself officiate in a FIFA World Cup, I thank AIFF for all the guidance and help.”

Uvena Fernandes, a former India international footballer, is now the second Indian referee to officiate in any World Cup after K Shankar, who got selected to referee in the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
