Post Demonetization effect the hardships seems to be never-ending. Removal of Black money from the economy was the main reason behind demonetization. Printing of the new 2000 and 500 notes was going on before the announcement but was distributed after Nov 10. Duplicate notes printed has been a big problem all through the while in the economy. On Friday, a similar case of fake notes being passed was the issue.
In Bhayander two people were arrested who were real estate agents passing off color photocopies of new Rs 2,000 notes as the real thing recently. These fake notes were found in most of the beer bars. The Om Shree Ganesh Estate Agency, on Goddev Road, Bhayander (East) were on the tip-off, the Kashimira unit of the crime branch raided them. The scanner and printer used for the photocopy of notes were seized by the police.
Rajendra Takvle, 37 and Chetan Patil, 36 were the two accused identified. The passing off fake 2000 rupees note as real confessed by the accused themselves who were partners. The accused even confessed that there were 40 photocopies of Rs 2,000 notes, mostly in beer bars. The 14 A1 size blank were seized by police which was used to make the fake notes.
The first time they printed these notes they were not sure whether it will work by then they were successful in passing it on. Later, they used the chance and started printing on a mass scale. Under sections 489 (a) and (b) for counterfeiting currency and 420 (cheating) of the IPC the two were booked. A similar case took place in Virar in November, a 26-year-old man was arrested after he tried to use a photocopied Rs 2,000 note in a wine shop.
