Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is trying to bring green from the waste at its eco-park which is newly opened in Delhi near the Shastri Park Metro Station. This eco-park is constructed from the waste material of metro construction of the city. Park is spread over an area of 10 acres, and the park is called “Prakriti.”
Many artists came from all over the country and made 12 huge installations by using the waste materials from the construction of metro. The DMRC said, “THE MAIN HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PARK ARE THE ARTISTIC INSTALLATIONS CREATED FROM WASTE MATERIALS GENERATED FROM THE DELHI METRO’S CONSTRUCTION SITES. ARTISTS FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY HAVE COME TOGETHER TO CREATE THESE BEAUTIFUL INSTALLATIONS.”
Prakriti park is situated near Shastrinagar and is spread over an area of 10-acres. The park also has an environmental gallery, explaining the need for environmental protection. Mostly it works on Solar energy. The park has a fountain and a lake. It also has an auditorium, amphitheater, playground, Gymnasium and a meditation corner.
The water which is required for the plants in the park comes from nearby Sewage Water Treatment Plant. DMRC have used the top soil from various underground station sites, and they even planted medicinal pollution absorbing plants.
The ‘green’ theme of the park has received ‘Platinum’ rating from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).
The chairman of NGT, Swatanter Kumar applauded this inventiveness and said, “(THE) DMRC HAS NOT ONLY CONTRIBUTED EXCELLENCE IN TRANSPORTATION BUT IT STANDS OUT FOR TWO MORE THINGS — IT IS ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS AND IT MAKES THE EFFORT TO BE SELF-RELIANT.”
This is a proud park for our country. Per day only Delhi produces a waste of 4000 tons from the construction activity.
