The ninth edition of Indian Premier League got off to a colorful start with a star studded and glittering opening ceremony at the National Sports Club Of India in Mumbai on Friday. The two hour and 15 minute long event was less spectacular as compared to the previous editions but the cine stars still managed to put up an entertaining show. Bollywood stars Ranveer Singh, Katrina Kaif, Jacqueline Fernandez and Yo Yo Honey Singh performed in the IPL ninth edition opening ceremony with International Music composer Major Lazer!

Jacqueline Fernandez Bollywood actress, was the first on stage as she entertained the audience by grooving to several Bollywood dance numbers. Kings United, an Indian dance group which finished third in the World Hip Hop Championships last year, took centre stage next. Be it tricks with the ball, acrobatic leaps or dance steps that would amaze, Kings United pulled it off without sweat to leave the onlookers stunned. The performance was followed by former India cricketer Ravi Shastri inviting all captains of eight franchises in the stage to take the MCC’s Spirit of Cricket pledge. All captains signed the pledge to maintain spirit of the game throughout the tournament.

Katrina Kaif danced to the tunes of her famous numbers “Dhoom 3”, “Bang Bang”, “Afghan Jalebi Yaa Baba”, alongside young boys and girls and was followed by a performance by none other than West Indies star all-rounder Dwayne Bravo who danced and sang his song “Champion”. He was later on joined by India’s Ankit Tiwari. Then came India’s star rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh who entertained the crowd by singing his favourite songs. He gave the stage to star actor Ranveer Singh dancing to his favourite numbers like “Tattad Tattad Ramji Ki Chaal”, “Tune Mari Entry”, and “Malhari” and then the much awaited performance by musical group Major Lazer.

IPL 2016 first match will be played between the Rising Pune Supergiants vs Mumbai Indians in Wankhede Stadium Mumbai today!
