Reliance Jio had already shaken India with its free offers and 4G network. There is a news for the Happy New Year offer users of Reliance Jio valid till 31 March, 2017 that may not be good for them. The free calling and free data from Jio may not be available anymore. Because Bharti Airtel has complained against the decision of TRAI to keep up the free services of Jio to the TDSAT who must have to take decision about this. What’s there in the complaint? Let’s have a brief look.
Airtel has claimed that TRAI is doing nothing against Jio’s violation of Terms. This petition of Airtel is against that decision of TRAI in which it allowed Jio to continue it free offers even after 3rd December, 2016.
Why Free Offers may not be continued?
Airtel says that The Jio does not follow TRAI’s Fee Order since March, 2015 which is affecting Airtel. Due to free calling by Jio, the amount of calls have increased a lot this year which is also affecting the network of other companies including Airtel. Airtel complained that continuation free services by jio is the violation of TRAI’s rules and Tariff Orders.
The Case will be judged on 6th January. TRAI replied to the complain that it need 10 more days before they take any decision. TDSAT has ordered TRAI to give the decision anyhow in 10 days. On 6th January, It will be decided whether Jio’s Free Offers will continue or they will be stopped.
This is how it all started
Jio launched free voice calls and data plans on 4th September first for three months. Early this month, it was shifted to 31 March 2017 with another plan in the form of Happy New Year Offer. That time it was said that according to TRAI’s Rules, the company cannot continue giving free offers for more than 90 days.
The Offer will be replaced on 1st January. Till now people are using Jio’s Welcome Offer which will be replaced by Happy New Year offer on 1st January. The free services will continue in the offer.
What will be the decision?
On 6th of January Both the companies will keep their views in front of the court. It would be interested to see that what will TRAI do in this case. There can be a third settlement also in which both the companies can be benefited. Let’s see if users can enjoy the offer in upcoming month or not.
TRAI has asked Reliance Jio to explain the latest ‘Happy New Year offer’ which in return JIO has explained that its a new offer and is different from the old one and Relience JIO also stated that Happy New Year offer complies with all the TRAI’s norms.
Trai also said even if it is a new promotional plan one could continue to offer promotional offers to its customers. Trai sent a show cause notice to Jio only on December 20. As expected Jio has sought an extension of time to submit its reply which will allow them another couple of weeks to reply. While submitting the reply, Jio will also seek personal hearing which TRAI will allow in the name of upholding the principles of natural justice. By the time all this happens, it will already be April 1, 2017, and the “Happy New Year Offer” would have been already over.
