Ace Tennis Player of India, Sania Mirza has got a notice by the Service Tax Department. Sania got the warrant because of avoiding the service tax or in connection with illegal payment. On February 6, the Principal Commissioner of Service Tax office had issued the warrant to tennis player Sania Mirza at her resident in Jubilee Hills. Suresh Kumar, the service tax officer, issued this notice. As per the sources it says, Sania has not revealed proper break-up of earnings.
The notice says, she has to appear or should be sent by an authorized agent on 16th February, Tennis star has to pay Rs. 20 lakhs. The notice says “Whereas an investigation against you about non-payment/evasion of Service Tax/contravention of provisions of Finance Act 1994 and Rules made thereunder is being inquired.
“I have reasons to believe you are in possession of facts or/and documents and things which are relevant to the inquiry.”
The summons said, “You are hereby summoned under Central Excise Act, 1944 made applicable to service Tax matters under Finance Act, 1994 to appear before the Office in person or by an authorised agent on February 16 to give evidence truthfully on such matters concerning the enquiry as you may be asked to produce the documents and things.”
It even said, if she fails to comply with this notice and avoids to attend or give any proof, or documents without any lawful excuse, she will be liable and punished under relevant provisions of IPC.
