After the bold step taken by PM Modi on the recent demonetization move, banks also cannot handle millions customer who are coming their way for the deposition of cash. While the banks are running out of the cash because of the shortage of funds, here it was reported that Rs 98,05,95,12,231 was credited in Jan Dhan Account of Taxi Driver Balwinder Singh.
It was the greatest shock of his life and it was the most happiest moment of his life when he received a message on his phone that such a big amount was credited into his account by the State Bank of Patiala. But the happiness was just for a day as the very next day he received a message the amount was debited from his account and it was an error that was done by the State Bank of Patiala.
What made the matter worst was when the driver went to the bank to talk about the issue and what had happened, but no bank official answered his query. He says ” i made many rounds to the bank but no one listened to me and they also took away my passbook and gave me new passbook without any entry into it. I had opened the account under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY). And my balance in the account is usually Rs 3000.”
Police of the area who were investigating the matter said that it was mistake made by the bank. “Instead of telling the bank holder telling themselves, they didn’t even listen to him and answered to his query.”
According to bank Manager, taxi driver is a designated vendor, While passing a credit entry of Rs 200, assistant manager wrongly inserted 11-digit internal Banking General Ledger account number in the amount column and the mistake was noticed the very next day.
