Australia Captain Steve Smith boundary off Pakistan Bowler Wahab Riaz during their ICC World Twenty20 match in Mohali attracted many reactions on social media. Smith played a shot that was made even more unusual by the delivery bowled by Wahab Riaz. With a clear shot at all three stumps and Steve Smith standing right beside the wide line, Riaz followed the batsman instead of hitting the stumps, going so far as to bowling a massive wide. Smith still dispatched it for four.

lol! In an attempt to throw Riaz off his game, Smith took strike standing well outside off stump, exposing all three of his stumps and virtually giving the Pakistan left-armer a free shot at the wickets.

Riaz attempted to call Smith’s bluff by bowling the ball even wider of off stump than the Australia captain was originally standing.

Smith was equal to the task and, after stepping so far away from his wickets that he was virtually off the pitch, the right-hander still somehow managed to flick the ball across his body and all the way to the square leg boundary.

HAHAHA! You should totally check out the video.

Australia got the boost towards the end of the innings thanks to Steven Smith, Glenn Maxwell and Shane Watson. Smith remained not out at 61 off 43 balls, while Maxwell contributed 30 off 18 balls, but the day for to Shane Watson, who is playing his last match in international cricket, blasted 44 off 21 balls with 3 sixes.

While Mohammad Sami went for 53 runs in his 4 overs and Mohammad Amir going for 39 runs in his 4 overs, Wahab Riaz was again impressive with his bowling as he picked up the wickets of Usman Khawaja and David Warner with two peach of deliveries that destroyed the stumps.

This latest outrageous effort from Smith is just the latest in his chronicle of bizarre cricket shots, which has also featured the ‘tweener’ – where he, deliberately or not, hits the ball between his legs, and his infamous ‘light sabre’ leave where just letting the ball go becomes an exercise in flamboyance.

Twitter didn’t appreciate Wahab Riaz’s decision to follow Smith and called him dumb among many names. Here are the twitter reactions:
