The Union sports minister Vijay Goel suffered from yet another embarrassment on Sunday when he called PV Sindhu and Sakshi Malik Rio gold medallists. The Minister was caught on camera calling both silver medallist shuttler PV Sindhu and bronze winner Sakshi Malik as ‘Rio gold medallists’. Vijay Goel later clarified that it was just a slip of tongue and nothing else.
In an interview Vijay Goel to ANI news, he said that our Rio gold medalist PV Sindhu and Sakshi Malik met the Prime Minister today along with other athletes.
Vijay Goel later clarified his statement by saying, “One should not make an issue of it. It was just a slip of tongue, I wanted to say medallist, but ended up saying gold medallist. It happens at times. Who knows, might be with god’s grace, we might a bag gold medal in the coming years.”
Vijay Goel got trolled on Twitter.
A few days ago, Vijay Goel had wished good luck to track athlete Srabani Nanda, but posted a picture of Dutee Chand to go with it. On another incident, he had misspelled Dipa Karmakar as “Dipa Karmanakar” on Twitter. And now with the confusion with the medals won by our Indians at the Olympics.
