Bollywood star Salman Khan and music composer AR Rahman met the athletes and wished them success in an event for India’s Olympic contingent in New Delhi on 18 July. Event organized by IOA for the Indian athletes who will be participating in the much awaited Rio Olympics 2016. Salman Khan and AR Rahman were named the Goodwill Ambassadors of the Indian contingent for the Olympics 2016.
Indian Olympic Association president N Ramachandran said, “The contingent this time is one third more than last time and this itself proves that Indian athletes are improving. It is not just about winning medals but qualifying to participate in the Olympics itself is a huge thing.”
Tennis star Sania Mirza, wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Vinod Tomar, gymnast Dipa Karmakar and young table tennis star Manika Batra were all present at the ceremony. Salman Khan greeted the athletes with best wishes ahead of the Olympics.
A record contingent of 121 athletes, including 54 women, will represent India at the upcoming Rio Olympic in the Brazilian city known for its sand and sea.
