As earlier, we got the news about Mahendra Singh Dhoni leaving the captaincy of the Indian team on his own wish. But today we got news which is shocking and it says MS Dhoni did not quit the captaincy on his own but was asked to leave it. It is said that Dhoni was asked to leave the captaincy by the selectors into making the “bombshell announcement”. As per the source, ‘selectors told him that his time is up’. On Wednesday 4th January the Indian Cricket board announced that MS Dhoni has decided to step down as the captain but he will still be a part of T20s and ODIs.
The sources in Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) told that MS Dhoni did not quit the captaincy on his own. Last week there was Ranji Trophy semifinal between Jharkhand, the committee chairman MSK Prasad had met MS Dhoni in Nagpur.
When the board made an announcement, MSK Prasad beats Dhoni’s decision. MSK Prasad told to media that, “I salute him for his sense of perfect timing. He knew that Virat (Kohli) is now a proven customer who has done exceptionally well as a leader in Tests”.
The sources said, the process of the captaincy to give over to skipper Kohli was set from early in September. The starting point was on September 21 when the new selection committee was set up. There was a group discussion over the roadmap for Indian Cricket with the hard focus on 2019 World Cup.
The sources said committee explained to MS Dhoni that when the 50-over World Cup is there- why Virat Kohli should take over. In last week this matter was again discussed with Dhoni in Nagpur. Last year India won seven ODIs and lost Six ODIs.
Virat Kohli, after being named in limited overs captain in his first interview he said, “It’s a win-win situation for the captain coming in to still have Dhoni for his advice, his inputs, and his cricketing brain”. “But what I’m most happy about is that he’ll be able to play free cricket and express himself as the aggressive MS Dhoni we knew when he first came into the team. As a player, responsibility can take that away from you. I think it’s time he enjoys his cricket because he has taken so much burden for the country.”
MS Dhoni will play the limited over series vs England under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. It clearly shows that the national selectors want Virat for 2019 ICC World Cup in the UK.
