Miss India World Contestant ‘Priyadarshini Chatterjee’, Lost the title, but won many hearts

The well known and much celebrated Miss World contest 2016 edition came to an end on 18th December after announcing Stephanie del Valle of Puerto Rico as the winner of the beauty pageant on Sunday in Pasay, Philippines. But the following day Priyadarshini Chatterjee of India who although lost in the final round was on the top charts. Priyadarshini Chatterjee was the winner of the FBB Femina Miss India World in the month of April previous this year. She hails from Guwahati, Assam, and is currently living in New Delhi. She also shared her pic with her fellow participants on social media.

Priyadarshini also is the first northeastern Indian to represent India at the stage of Miss World. During a recent interview with Indiatimes, she disclosed that she had a tumor in her intestine and she was very close to death. As per the actor, it was a turning point in her life. She completed her higher secondary in Guwahati only and then she moved to Delhi for higher studies. Currently, she is studying in Hindu College (Delhi University). Initially, she won The Femina Miss Delhi and afterward Miss India World.


There are also some other famous and well-known names of industry who had won similar titles. To be exact India has won the Miss World title five times out of 66 times. This contest was started in 1950 and the first Indian to win this title was Reita Faria(1966). After that Aishwarya Rai won it in 1994 followed by Diana Hayden in 1997 and Yukta Mookhey in 1999. The most recent Indian winner of this title is Priyanka Chopra in 2000.

Talking about the beauty pageant- Miss World 2016, Yaritza Miguelina Reyes Ramirez of the Dominican Republic was the first runner up and Natasha Mannuela from Indonesia was the second runner up. The winner, Stephanie del Valle was crowned by former Miss World 2015 Mireia Lalaguna of Spain.
