Konkona Sen Sharma’s directorial debut ‘A Death in the Gunj’ Trailer is out and watching Konkona Sen Sharma, Kalki Koechlin, Abhishek Chaubey & Ranvir Shorey together in the movie is so impressive. The film will premiere at the 41st Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September, this year.
The trailer revolves around a family vacation that is gone horribly gone wrong in a small town of Jharkhand, following with blossoming friendship, a romance and a mysterious murder.
A Death in the Gunj unfolds over a span of seven days and it’s the story of a family from Kolkata visiting parents settled in McCluskiegunj. Based on true events, the film scopes how a murder occurs under the nose of this large family, while the youngsters (Kalki, Ranvir, Tillotame, Gulshan and Vikram) are busy playing drinking games and fooling around. Shuntu (Vikram Massey, possibly the protagonist) also develops a beautiful friendship with his younger cousin, which forms the base of the narrative.
This is absolutely the type of cinema which India needs, desperately.
Produced by Honey Trehan and Abhishek Chaubey who are making their debut as producers, and presented by Ashish Bhatnagar and Vijay T Swami, the film was wrapped up in just 31 days. The film will have its world premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
