15-year-old girl from Ludhiana, Jhanvi Behal, who had challenged Jawaharlal Nehru University student union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar for an open debate on freedom of expression, has now announced that she will be hoisting Indian tricolour at Lal Chowk in Srinagar, come this August 15.
Jhanvi Behal told ANI news agency, “It’s the place where students and other people not just insulted the national flag but also flew the flag of Pakistan, so I will go and hoist the tricolor right in front of them, let’s see if they can stop me.”

“I had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him to allow all his MPs to hoist the national flag in their respective constituencies. He accepted my request and I am happy about that. Only a ‘best’ Prime Minister like him could have done that,” Jhanvi Behal told ANI.
Kashmir has been undergoing one of its worst bouts of unrest in recent times, after Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was killed in an encounter on 7 July.
Jhanvi Behal, a student of DAV Public School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, Ludhiana, She also received a letter of appreciation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for her contribution to the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’.
