Ravindra Jadeja, India’s left-arm spinner climbed to the 2nd position in ICC Test Rankings in bowlers list after his extraordinary performance in the recent series with England he also achieved his maiden 10-wicket match haul in fifth and last test match of the series in Chennai.
Also for the second time in the Indian cricket history ICC top two bowlers are Indians, Ravichandran Ashwin on top and Ravindra Jadeja just after him. Earlier this was done by left-arm spinner Bishan Singh Bedi and leg-spinner Bhagwath Chandrasekhar, who were ranked one and two in 1974. Ravindra Jadeja is just 8 points behind Ashwin after he obtained 66 points for his brilliant feat.
In total Jadeja got 26 wickets and Ashwin got 28 wickets, and both played all the 5 test matches of the series. Jadeja also got his career best bowling figures at 10 for 154 in the last test match and India won that match by an innings and 75 runs.
India ended the series with a 4-0 clean sweep over the rival Englishmen. In bowling Jadeja surpassed giants such as James Anderson, Mitchell Starc, Dale Steyn, Stuart Broad and Rangana Herath. Along with bowling he also got his career best ranking as an all-rounder, which is again topped by Ravichandran Ashwin, Jadeja settled on third rank as an all-rounder.
Apart from bowlers, Indian batsmen also brought glory to the nation. Young guns KL Rahul and Karun Nair boosted 29 and 122 positions respectively. Rahul stands on 51st place whereas Karun secured 55th position in ICC test rankings.
Karun got this huge gain after his unbeaten 303 in the last match of the series, also it was only Nair’s third test match. India is now on the top after winning the 5 match test series, following them are Australians who are 15 points away. India will march in 2017 as the champion as it was the last test series of the year 2016.
