After success of the Pro Kabaddi League, India is all set to host the Kabaddi World cup this year, International Kabaddi Federation on 31 July 2016 announced selected India to host The 2016 Kabaddi World Cup. The World Cup featuring 12 countries is scheduled to be held in October 2016, the dates for the event will be announced later.
According to TOI report, The United States, Canada, UK, Australia, Iran, Poland, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Korea, Japan and Kenya, apart from hosts India, are set to take part in the competition for the top honours.
“The International Kabaddi Federation is immensely proud that Kabaddi is growing in popularity so fast and is all set to breakthrough on a global stage with the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup scheduled in India,” said Janardan Singh Gehlot, President, International Kabaddi Federation, reported PTI.
“We are committed to nurturing the sport across the globe. The phenomenal success of Star Sports Pro Kabaddi and the participation of players from around the world is a testament to kabaddi’s promise as a global sport. We are delighted and proud to have India host 12 countries for the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup.”
Kabaddi became a part of Asian Games in the year 1990 and India have won all the gold medals since. Star Sports will be the official broadcaster of the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup.
