On Tuesday morning in Jharkhand, a Hindu follower from Bihar has sacrificed his life by cutting his throat with a knife. He was at a famous Chinnamastika temple in Rajrappa. Chinnamastika temple is a Shakti Peeth; it attracts the Tantrik to offer blood.

A man who died was from Balihar Village in Buxar; his name was Sanjay Nat. Sanjay was 35-year-old. Sanjay slit this throat after doing prayers in the morning around 6:20 am. He did it outside the temple of Garva Griha. After some minutes he died in his blood pool.

According to the eyewitness, Sanjay was the devotee who came to the temple for darshan after the shrine was open. He came around 6 am by following the rituals. When this incident took place, the priests who were there said, “Sanjay was chanting some mantras to himself with closed eyes. Then all of a sudden, he took out a dagger which he was carrying, hidden in his gamcha (coarse towel) and slit his throat,” Subhashish Panda, general secretary of the Rajrappa Temple’s Panda (priest) Samiti told TOI. “A few devotees saw the incident and informed the priests. When they arrived, the man was lying in a pool of blood, dead,” Panda said.

In an hour the Rajrappa police team was there. Sanjay’s body was taken for post-mortem. The police officer Atin Kumar said Sanjay had a paper in his pocket in which his name, address and phone numbers of his family members was there. Sanjay’s father is a constable in Central Reserve Police Force (CPRF).  “The family members have been informed, and they are on their way here.”

After this incident happened, the authority of the temple has closed the darshan for almost 3 hours. This temple is 68KM away from Ranchi near the Damodar and Bhairavi Rivers. The temple priest said, “Though the tantrik who come here to offer pujas during Amavasyas offer their blood by pricking their fingers, today’s incident is unprecedented.”
