Hema Malini faced a lot of strong criticism on social media after she tweeted pictures of a film shoot on Friday while her constituency Mathura was on edge following the death of 24 people in an anti-encroachment clash between the police and encroachers. Bollywood actress and BJP‘s MP from Mathura Hema Malini was busy posting photos of her film shoot on Twitter.

24 persons have been confirmed dead, including two police personal in connection with the violence in Mathura during the encroachment drive at Jawahar Bagh. The police have also arrested 124 persons on charges of murder and rioting in the case. The violence had erupted when police were trying to evict illegal occupants, believed to be of Azad Bharat Vidhik Vaicharik Kranti Satyagrahi, from Jawahar Bagh yesterday on the directions of the Allahabad High Court.

At a time when Mathura is engulfed by tension following a violent confrontation between the police and encroachers, veteran actress and BJP MP Hema Malini tweeted photos of a film shoot in Mumbai.

Mathura MP Hema Malini was shooting near Mumbai for an upcoming film. “Hoping for an early release of this film,” she captioned one of the photos, without revealing the name of the film.

However, within moments, Hema Malini’s indifference to the Mathura clashes, which had been the headline since late on Thursday night, was noted on Twitter, Hema Malini quickly deleted the tweets and instead posted, “I just came bk frm Mathura & got the news of the violence tht has taken place there in which policemen have lost their lives.”

“So so upset by ths news frm a place which is so dear to me, Will go there again if my presence is required. My heart goes out to the bereaved,” she said in another tweet.

The BJP said Malini is “extremely sensitive” to the situation and will reach Mathura soon but insisted that the issue should not be used as a “diversion” as law and order is the state government’s responsibility and not that of the local MP.

“As far as this issue of Hema Malini reaching Mathura is concerned, I am sure she will be reaching Mathura… Let’s not divert the issue as to when Hema Malini will be reaching Mathura. The major issue is law and order is a state subject.

Realising that she had committed a blunder, Hema Malini, however, soon withdrew her tweet and expressed grief over the loss of lives.

On Thursday, a mob went on rampage after police took action against them for encroaching upon a major part of a government land. The toll in the Mathura violence rose to 24 on Friday. Among the dead were superintendent of police, Mukul Dwivedi, and Farah station house officer, Santosh Yadav.
