Happy Bhag jaayegi is a comedy film released today featuring Diana Penty, Abhat Deol, Ali Faizal and Jimmy Shergill. It is directed by Mudassar Aziz. The film spends a substantial amount of time in Pakistan and a whole bunch of colorful characters trying out their Urdu.
An Amritsari strongman and local corporator Daman Singh Bagga (Jimmy Shergill) is paying his tributes to Sunny Deol by dancing to ‘Yaara O Yaara’ when his would-be wife Harpreet aka Happy (Diana Penty) goes missing.
We smile in the beginning. Spirited Amritsar kudi Happy’s (Diana Penty) heart beats for Guddu (Ali Fazal) but the path of true love is strewn with stern fathers (Kanwaljeet), local bad boy rival Bagga (Jimmy Shergill) and an accidental Pakistani gentleman named Bilal Ahmed (Abhay Deol).
Good to see Abhay Deol back in the groove after his disastrous previous outing One By Two, and the very pretty very swish-in-her-designer-threads Momal Sheikh (a popular TV actor who also happens to be Javed Sheikh’s daughter) gives him something to work on. The third angle in this triangle is touched upon but its potential is never fully realized. Diana Penty is the cohesive force behind Happy Bhag Jayegi.
Abhay Deol’s return to form ensures you keep laughing for more than two hours. Jimmy Shergill continues from where he left in Tanu Weds Manu Returns, and with more fervor. Pakistani actor Momal Sheikh as Bilal’s fiancée is a revelation.
