As Vijay Mallya recently claimed that he is unable to return to India because his passport had been revoked, Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup replied saying Vijay Mallya can return to India by applying for Emergency Certificate as their embassy provide this facility to citizens with requisite travel documents.
As reports by TOI, Vijay Mallya can seek Emergency Certificate to return to India. It was also added that the Emergency Certificate is specifically meant to provide a travel document to an Indian citizen to return to India and any citizen can approach the nearest Indian Embassy or high commission and apply for an Emergency Certificate to return to the India.
Vijay Mallya had made the submission at Delhi’s Patiala House Court on September 9, claiming that he cannot return to India to face the charges put against him because the government had suspended his passport. He also moved the application in the court, seeking a reversal of the ministry’s decision to revoke his passport.
