A regiment of the Indian Army, known as Gorkha Rifles, acquired the gold medal in the Exercise Cambrian Patrol, one of the most intense or savage exercises in the whole world. Team 2/8 men of the Second Battalion of 8 Gorkha Rifles, from India, succeeded in the exercise organised by the British Army and were awarded with gold medals for their praiseworthy efforts on 22nd October 2016.
The news was confirmed by the British Army in Wales, when they posted a video of the Indian Gorkha soldiers receiving their medals on a social media site known as Twitter. Team 2/8 Gorkha, who won the exercise organise by the British Army, also presented the British a memento or a token and a traditional khukri, which the regimental insignia of the Gorkha Rifles carry as its central element.
An annual military patrolling exercise, The Cambrian Patrol, is an international event that is conducted in the rugged terrain of the Cambrian Mountains in Wales. Being one of the most grueling tests for the modern soldiers, the team’s performance is nothing short of miraculous. The snakes across the Cambrian Mountains is around 55-km long, which in itself is one of the most difficult ranges in the world.

The The Cambrian Patrol exercise is a kind of a task-oriented mission, where a team must complete all the stages or tasks assigned to them with the given time limit of 48 hours. The set rules also state that the patrol must carry all their equipment and own personal kit as they go-ahead on their mission through the meandering course.On the basis of their performance in several military tasks points are awarded, with the lack of any equipment from the kit resulting in replacement by dead object as weight and a loss of points. The teams are judged on the basis of their military skills and accomplishment of orders and debriefs.
The other factors which also count into assessing the teams include close combat skills, obstacle crossing, recognition of aircraft, vehicle and equipment, patrol techniques, first aid procedures,media handling, IED and minefield clearance drills, prisoner of war handling, helicopter drills, radio communications skills and artillery target portent procedures, among others. This massive task, The Cambrian Patrol, is not a competition, and the prize in the form of medals are awarded on the basis of the points collected or earned on the completion of the course. Team earning 75 percent of the points are adhere to the gold medal while 65-75 percent gets silver and 55-64 percent ensures bronze medal.
