Fire broke out in the Sector 5, salt Lake area in Kolkata, West Bengal on the afternoon of 6 April. The fire reportedly broke out in a central government building. Six fire engines have been rushed to the spot to contain the smoke and efforts are being made to douse the flames. The building has been evacuated and no casualties have been reported so far. The cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained.

According to reports, the fire was first seen around 11:45 am. on the second floor of ERTL-E building at DN Block area. After evacuating the building, firemen have begun operation to arrest the blaze. However, no casualty has been reported in the incident so far. The building has been evacuated. We have sent over 10 fire tender engines along with a hydraulic ladder. More engines are rushing to the spot. The situation is being brought under control slowly. Hope the blaze will be arrested very soon,” one senior official of West Bengal Fire and Emergency Services told IBNS.
