FIR was lodged against Munna Marandi, son of Jharkhand Bhartiya Janata Party chief Tala Marandi for marrying a minor. Munna’s marriage was reportedly celebrated on Tuesday in Jharkhand with a girl who is only 11 years old.

The marriage reception, scheduled on Wednesday and to be attended by Chief Minister Raghubar Das, was cancelled at the last moment to avoid any controversy. Tala Marandi avoided questions on the issue and said the mother of the girl was in a “better position” to talk about the age of her daughter.

Jharkhand BJP President Tala Marandi’s son Munna Marandi has been accused of sexually exploiting a girl for over two years and then marrying another girl, a minor this week.

According to reports, the marriage with the minor girl reportedly took place on June 27, in Godda region of Jharkhand and the reception was held on 29 June. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which rules the state has so far been silent on the issue. The opposition parties have demanded an inquiry into the entire episode.

According to a newsd report, a letter by SDN Academy says the girl was born on July 25, 2005, and is enrolled in the sixth standard. The report said that Marandi’s son was earlier set to marry the minor’s cousin but the girl’s family backed out of the marriage.

Congress leader Shobha Oza said, “On one side, the BJP and the Prime Minister chant the slogan of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ and on the other side, the son of their party president in Jharkhand is married to a girl who is minor.”

Regarding the claims of sexual abuse, an Indian Express report said the minor girl had submitted an application before the State Commission for Women against Munna for sexually abusing her for two years with the promise of marriage.
