Cricket will be included in the 2024 Olympics, if one is to believe Simone Gambino, president of the Federazione Cricket Italiana. Gambino has assured that cricket will be included in the 2024 Olympics, if Rome wins the hosting rights of the event. Rome, Paris, Los Angeles and Budapest are bidding to host the Games and under new regulations the local organising committee has the opportunity to add five sports to the schedule at its own discretion.

“If Rome hosts the Olympics, cricket will be included,” Simone Gambino, president of the Federazione Cricket Italiana (FCI) told ESPNcricinfo. “We have had a firm commitment from the organising committee.”
The respective Organising Committees have authority over new sports being proposed for inclusion but the ultimate decision rests with the governing body and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Any attempt at having cricket on the programme at the 2024 event would also need the backing of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
A Rome 2024 spokesperson admitted cricket was being considered due to the growing popularity of the sport in the nation. As part of the new Olympic bidding regulations, host cities will get to nominate five sports to be added to the games, based on their preference. Tokyo, for the 2020 games, picked karate, softball, karate, skateboarding, sports climbing, surfing and baseball.
