Bronze medallist Sakshi Malik returns home to a grand welcome in Delhi

Rio Olympics bronze medallist wrestler Sakshi Malik arrived in Delhi from Rio de Janeiro to a grand welcome early on Wednesday morning, She became India’s first woman to win an Olympic medal in wrestling. Ministers of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Haryana received Malik at Indira Gandhi International Airport. There will be another reception for the wrestler at her village Mokhra Khas in Rohtak district on Wednesday.

On her arrival at the airport, Sakshi Malik said: It’s a great feeling, the reception I got was amazing. It’s a proud moment for me. Poore Hindustan ne mera saath diya hai, main sab ko thank you kehna chahti hun.”

Sakshi Malik will also be felicitated with a cash prize of Rs 2.5 crore by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar for her achievement. The felicitation ceremony will be held in her village in Rohtak where the Haryana CM will meet the wrestler and congratulate her on her victory. The ceremony is expected to see a footfall of roughly 30,000 people.

A felicitation function for Sakshi Malik has been kept for Wednesday evening at her village in Rohtak. Before she heads to Rohtak, Sakshi will be welcomed near the Delhi-Haryana border at Bahadurgarh where apart from the Chief Minister, prominent sportspersons, senior officials of the state government, will receive her.

Sakshi Malik became the first woman wrestler in India to win an Olympic medal with her bronze in the 58kg freestyle event at Rio.
