Telangana government has decided to put up a 125-fit tall statue of Dr. B.R Ambedkar, most likely on a rock in the Amusement Park at NTR Gardens in Hyderabad. Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao decided to install a 125-feet tall statue to celebrate the 125th birth anniversary of Ambedkar this year. He will lay the foundation stone for the statue on April 14.
The race for the tallest statue began when Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandraba bu Naidu announced his govern ment’s move to set up a 125 ft tall statue of the father stitution last of the constitution last month. The Andhra government would construct the memorial near 125 feet Dhyana Buddha statue on the banks of the Krishna River in Amaravati village. It would build an exclusive Dalit university as well. Naidu’s Telangana counterpart, K Chandrasekhar Rao, announced that the statue in Hyderabad would be part of an Ambedkar Square and would be 125-ft tall. He claimed this statue would be tallest in the world.
Sources said, the project is expected to cost around Rs 25 crore. Mr Rao also asked ministers and officials to take up distribution of free three-acre farm land for Dalits as part of the celebrations.
He directed them to ensure celebrations on a grand scale throughout the year. The officials were told to plan special programmes every month in all the districts. The CM constituted a committee headed by deputy CM Kadiam Srihari to identify the suitable location in the city for the statue.
