Ravi Shastri become disappointed after lost out to Anil Kumble in the race of head Coach of Indian Cricket Team. During Ravi Shastri’s interview, Sourav Ganguly had stepped out of the room. The reason is still unknown as to why Ganguly was not present during Shastri’s interview. When he was asked why he thinks Ganguly was absent during his presentation, he said something that indicates all is not well between them.

Ravi Shastri has indirectly hinted that former India captain Sourav Ganguly is responsible for him not getting the coach’s job.

Ravi Shastri, in an interview with Times of India,  said Sourav Ganguly should be asked what problem he has with him. “All I can say is that Ganguly wasn’t there when I was interviewed and you should ask what problem Ganguly has with me instead of asking me.”

“My disappointment (on not being appointed India coach) was there for a day and that is all. And it happened last week. I have moved on.” Shastri was quoted saying.

The CAC which comprised Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar interviewed as many as 10 candidates. Ravi Shastri made his presentation from Bangkok where he was vacationing but Ganguly had excused himself for those 90 minutes to attend a meeting of the Cricket Association of Bengal, where he is president.

Ravi Shastri, many thought, had a good chance to become coach until Anil Kumble threw his hat in the ring. Ravi Shastri had taken charge as team director during India’s disastrous Test campaign in England in 2014 and continued in the position till the 2016 World T20. During his tenure, India had briefly occupied the top spot in the ICC Test rankings and made it to the semi-finals of the World Cup and the World T20.
