Argentine footballer Michael Favre died after receiving two blows to his head during during a regional league match in Argentina. The Argentine Football Association confirmed Michael Favre, 24, died Sunday following a match between San Jorge and Defensores in the Liga Departamental de Colon. During the match in Villa Elisa, Colon, Michael Favre collided with his opponent and was accidental kneed to the head as he battled for possession.
Michael Favre tripped and fell on the ground when he was playing for Club San Jorge de Villa Elisa against Defensores de Colon in a provincial match on Sunday. As Favre was trying to recover, opponent Geronimo Quintana accidentally caught him in the head with his knee. After getting back to his feet, Favre reacted angrily. At that moment another Defensores player, miffed with Favre’s reaction, pushed him to the ground. He again got up but struggled to balance himself this time. Favre, a father of two, was immediately rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The news has shocked the football world. The Argentine Football Association released a statement shortly afterwards, saying: “The AFA express their condolences for the death of Michael Favre, San Jorge player of Villa Elisa, and sends its support to the family and the club. We express deep sorrow over the death of Michael Favre, which occurred while playing against Defensores.”
