On Sunday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav was declared the man of the match at a friendly Twenty20 contest between the Chief Minister’s XI and Uttar Pradesh IAS Officers Association XI in Lucknow.
The most recent match between the two teams took place at the La Martiniere pitch in Lucknow and was attended by several celebrities including Mandira Bedi. Many though felt that it was a match like they have never seen, thanks to its rather comic overtones. Akhilesh Yadav won the toss CM XI elected to bat first, They set up a target of 127 runs in 20 overs. In response, IAS XI managed 126 runs in their quota of 20 overs. The 43 year old chief minister was quite the star in his team. He scored 65 runs, with 11 fours and a six, before being bowled. The officer, who dismissed the chief minister, was visibly appalled at what he had done. He was seen holding his head in dismay. The chase in contrast was strong. Too strong perhaps. With just 3 needed from two overs, IAS XI somehow managed to collapse and hand the match to the opposition.
Chief secretary Alok Ranjan said:
“We tried really hard and fought well but the bowling improved in the last few overs. That’s why the win slipped from between our fingers. To improve their game’ the next time after losing to the CM 4 years in a row.”
Akhilesh too beamed at the final outcome and was declared man of the match for the fourth consecutive year. Akhilesh slammed 11 boundaries and 1 six.
After Akhilesh Yadav said:
“I will thank my team members for this win, but I will specially like to thank the Chief Secretary and his team for the support because of which we won.”
Spectators were quoted saying the officers were chucking slow balls to the CM to let him hit 6s and 4s, which he did obligingly, and scored 65 runs, with 11 fours and a six. There was more proof that the match was fixed. In the last two overs, the IAS officers needed only three runs to level and four to win. But they managed to score only two runs. Check out the news that DNA posted on there website regarding match being fixed.
WHAT? Not good Mr. Akhilesh Yadav match fixing is not good.
Akhilesh Yadav is a sports lover and has played football as a center forward. It runs in the family – his father and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav was a wrestler.
