Indian shooter Abhinav Bindra missed out on a medal at the Rio Olympics after finishing fourth in the men’s 10m air rifle final on the third day of competitions at the Rio Games in Rio on Monday. Abhinav Bindra, the country’s lone individual Olympic gold medallist, lost the shoot-off against Ukrainian Serhiy Kulish after both were tied for third place at 163.8 points after 16 shots.
Abhinav Bindra had shot 29.9, 30.2, 21.1, 21.5, 20.8, 20.2 and 20.1 in his first seven series of shots. In the shootout, he scored a 10.0 while that of Kulish was 10.5. Earlier, Abhinav Bindra left it late to qualify for the Final in the 10m air rifle event. He continued to remain in the top 8 after the first two series but then dropped to outside the top 10 when he shot 102.1 in the fifth series. But he shot 10.8 thrice in the final five shots.
“The morning didn’t start well, the table where my rifle was placed collapsed and the sight on my gun broke. I had to go with the alternate one – which is not my best choice,” Abhinav Bindra told India Today in an exclusive interview.
