A 21-year-old MCA student was stabbed by a man with a broken bottle after she refused to reciprocate his proposal, at a bus stop near Bharathiar University on Wednesday, 4 November 2016. The culprit has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody. Kanagalakshmi, 21 years old, daughter of Madasamy from Uppara Street near Gandhi Park in Coimbatore city, was a first-year MCA student at TN’s Bharathiar University . An year ago, she received a friend request from the culprit A.Vemburaj, 28 year old, a native of Mudukulathur in Ramanathapu ram and is employed by a construction company in Chennai. Since then, they began chatting on social media.
Culprit had told the 21-year-old Victim that he had completed his civil engineering and was working at L&T company in the city of Chennai for the past seven years. Vemburaj fell in love with her and professed her through the chat. She however told him that she was not interested in a relationship, currently her focus was on her studies.They continued chatting online.
After few months of chatting he got her mobile number. The 21-year-old began avoiding the culprit by changing her phone number again and again. Upset over her ignorant behavior, A. Vemburaj decided to approach her in their very first meet. On 2 November 2016, Wednesday, he went to Bharathiar University to meet her. Both agreed to meet at the bus stop near the university. A. Vemburaj threatened to `finish her off ‘ if she refused to marry him. The Victim, Kanagalakshmi stood on her ground. Frustrated and angry, the Culprit took a broken bottle he found at the bus stop and slashed her neck. Other students at the stop informed the cops who rushed to the incident spot and took her to a private hospital. However, Vemburaj managed to flee.
